Sash Gang Technology with tradition, experience, and continuous development

Robust design and ease of operation define every EWD Sash Gang. Since the early days of our company, they have stood for sophisticated, durable construction and functionality that proves itself in daily operation. A clearly structured machine layout with easily accessible components enables exceptionally simple maintenance and servicing. Over the decades, our Sash Gang have been continuously refined—and to this day remain a quality product focused on what matters most: reliable technology for dependable results.

Overview of our Sash Gang Technology

Width Adjustemnt
The sash gang types GDZGE, HDN and HDSN are available with a hydraulic and electric width adjustment. Optionally they are also available with the VARIO SV4 quad width adjustment. The sash gang types HDE and LSH are available with a double width adjustment.

Feed speed control depending on the performance
The feed speed is always defined by the operator. If the power consumption is too high, the feed speed is automatically reduced.

Automatic calculation of the cutting
Display of the cutting volume on the operating panel with possibility to record on an external storage device.

Power monitoring
The motor currents of the main drive motor are monitored to protect the machine/tools from damage in case of overload (exceeding the current limit). The measured values are shown on the display or can be read out via remote maintenance.

SPS Control
The electrical signals from the installation, from the control panel and from the control cabinet are linked by means of PLC sequence control. Remote maintenance access is possible.

„Live View“ display of the cutting lines
Using CCD digital cameras, the products to be processed are displayed in a window on the monitor in real time; with graphic visualization of the products to be processed and data transfer to the PC. CCD colour camera with zoom lens, camera housing with heating. „Live View“ software and colour monitor. The cutting lines are set manually on the corresponding saw blades. Composition of the lines from the center of the sash gang. The cutting lines are projected in the camera image on the monitor. The products between the saws are displayed on the workpiece.

AVER 1550
For the separation of main and side products during breakdown and resawing. Safe guidance of logs, model or prisms to avoid crooked or propeller cut. Removal of processed goods and residues. The AVER splitting key device forms a functional unit with the sash gang in longitudinal cut.

Balance unit the only available on the market
The balancing unit developed by EWD reduces the inertia forces of first and second order. In this way we can largely avoid the development of disturbing ground vibrations in unfavourable ground conditions.

GDZGE | 600 Hub Stroke Oscillating Frame Sash Gang

Designed for medium to high cutting performance. Suitable for all diameter ranges and all softwood and hardwood species. Optionally available as an 8-roller sash gang for short timber applications.

HDSN | 600 und 700 HUB Full-length Sash Gang

Designed for high cutting performance at maximum feed speeds.

VARIO SV4

4-position electric cutting width adjustment

Two saw packages and two adjustable saws on four independent adjustment spindles enable quick switching between sharp cutting and single-, double-, or triple-cant cutting. For four-cant cutting patterns, a center saw can be installed.

The cutting patterns are stored and can be selected from the operator’s seat via a touch-enabled control panel. Adjustment of the saw packages is possible from the control station while the sash gang is in operation. Dimensional deviations caused by contamination are eliminated. Operation is simple via touchscreen. Encoders on all positioning drives of the saws ensure consistently precise cutting accuracy.

The VARIO SV4 can be used with the HDN, HDSN, and GDZGE sash gang types.

USF Sash Gang Feed System

Universal fast infeed carriage system, remote controlled for the feeding of the sash gang with logs and cants

The clamping carriage for round logs, cants, and squared timber is suitable for all sash gang types and different roller heights. The carriage can be loaded from the left, the right, or from both sides. V-turners equipped with specially toothed chains in the main and auxiliary carriage enable fast and easy rotation of round logs.

Flat design
The flat design of the USF ensures stability, easy accessibility, and a low center of gravity, effectively preventing any tilting. As logs can extend beyond the carriage, even overlength timber can be processed without difficulty. Its modular design allows the USF to be optimally adapted to the customer’s specific requirements.

Semi-automatic remote control
The carriage is remotely controlled from an ergonomic operator’s seat. This ensures a safe working environment in accordance with current occupational safety regulations. The semi-automatic control system reduces operator workload and enables consistently high cutting performance.

ZE-F Centering and Infeed Table

For round logs and two-sided cants, centered
